The Hoola development, located at London’s Royal Docks, features stunning apartments with rippling glass balconies and 360-degree views of the city skyline. During construction, a sophisticated yet efficient scaffold design was required to provide safe access and edge protection.
The alternating balcony layout posed unique challenges that pushed the boundaries of scaffold engineering. The solution involved a series of closely linked scaffold towers combined with a bespoke scaffold tie detail, which was designed to be non-intrusive and easily removable as the scaffold was dismantled.
The scaffold was built using tube and fitting and incorporated incremental loading gantries for efficient material handling, a hoist landing and loading platform and an independent system access staircase providing personnel access and emergency escape routes for each completed floor level.
The design of the loading gantries and ramps was carefully executed to prevent damage to the fair-faced concrete finish of the building. This included measures to avoid contact damage, rust stains, and direct impact, ensuring the building aesthetics were preserved throughout construction.
