Hoola Residential Towers, London
Access & Edge Protection
Scaffold Design & Engineering
Located at London’s Royal Docks, the Hoola development offers an array of apartments with rippling glass balconies and 360 degree views of the city skyline. During construction, a seemingly simple scaffold solution was required for access and edge protection.
The alternating balcony layout presented challenges that tested the ingenuity of the scaffold designers. A non-conventional solution requiring a series of closely linked scaffold towers were constructed and combined with a bespoke scaffold tie detail, designed to be non-intrusive and easily removed as the scaffold was dismantled.
The scaffold was designed in tube and fitting and incorporated an incremental loading gantry, hoist landing and loading platform, and an independent systems access stairs, to provide personnel access and emergency escape to each completed floor level. The design of the loading gantry and other loading ramps into the concrete frame, had to ensure that the fair faced finish of the building was not compromised either in contact damage, rust stains or direct impact.
